In pursuit of their dream to engage in organic farming, Anna and David moved to a small village in the north of Hungary in 2019. There, they created a farm to breed a variety of stock, and the main income was generated from sales of free-range chicken. Neither Anna nor have any previous background or experience in farming but both have the ambition to produce clean food without additives, antibiotics, pesticides and chemicals and adhere to the principles of organic farming.
From the start the farm was supported by CAP’s rural development programme. The main purpose of the funding was to secure the necessary equipment to build processing capacity on the farm. The procedure had its difficulties, but the Paying Agency team was understanding, flexible and helpful given the challenges that small farmers are confronted with when applying for funding.
Most of the farm’s land (90%) is grassland in an agroforestry system and the rest is a forest with a biointensive garden occupying a small area. In addition to several thousand chickens, the couple also breeds cattle, ducks and geese. The team consists of 6 full-time employees.
Anna and David promote actively their way of life in various media platforms and channels followed by young people and have 100 000 followers in Instagram and nearly half a million in TikTok. Their long-term vision is to supply agricultural products with greater added value to be able to continuously adapt to the changing market trends. Relevant examples would be the high-quality organic preserved meat and the fresh vacuumed chicken they produce.
