Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards 2026: When equality powers the next generation

The 2026 edition focuses on the theme of ‘Gender equality’, highlighting projects that empower women to actively shape the future of farming and rural areas. These projects support women’s leadership, foster entrepreneurship, promote equal opportunities, and contribute to more inclusive rural communities. This year’s competition will continue to showcase the impact of CAP-funded projects in strengthening food security, enhancing environmental resilience, and supporting the socio-economic fabric of rural areas.

Driving sustainable farming

The European Commission has published a new report providing best practices for the design of agri-environmental and climate actions (AECAs) in the view of the CAP post-2027. This report is intended to support Member States in preparing their future CAP plans by providing concrete recommendations, practical steps and examples on how to design measures that are effective, workable and attractive for farmers.

Commission allocates €21.5 million in emergency support to farmers in Bulgaria

Member States endorsed the Commission's proposal to mobilise €21.5 million from the agricultural reserve to support farmers in Bulgaria (BG), Estonia (EE) and Hungary (HU) affected by adverse weather events during the 2025 growing season. They will respectively receive €7,4 million (BG), €3,3 million (EE) and €10,8 million (HU) of exceptional support, which can be complemented by up to 200% of national funds.

EU opens registration for craft and industrial product names under new geographical indication scheme

From 1 December 2025, Europe's glassblowers, potters, cutlers, jewellers and other makers will be able to register their product names under the EU's new geographical indication (GI) scheme for craft and industrial goods. This marks the first time GI protection, long used for food and drink, will cover non-agricultural products, completing the Single Market for GIs.

Commission proposes measures to support generational renewal in agriculture

The European Commission has presented a ‘Strategy for Generational Renewal in Agriculture', setting out a clear roadmap to support young farmers and attract more people to farming. The strategy aims to double the share of young farmers in the EU by 2040, with a goal of young and new farmers constituting about 24% of European farmers.

Today, the Commission is presenting its Vision for Agriculture and Food, an ambitious roadmap on the future of farming and food in Europe. This roadmap sets the stage for an attractive, competitive, resilient, future-oriented and fair agri-food system for current and future generations of farmers and agri-food operators.
